, Album of Original Photographs of the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games
Album of Original Photographs of the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games
Not Stated, Not Stated, 1936. Cloth. A superb photograph album containing forty-five very high quality original photographs taken during the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, a fascinating look at the important Games. A very high quality photograph album showing two women visiting Berlin for the 1936 Olympic Games. The photographs in this scrapbook show Berlin and the Olympic Stadium during the 1936 Summer Olympics. The Olympiastadion was built by Werner March with a capacity of 100,000 people. The 1936 Summer Olympics has gone down in history for its importance, with Adolf Hitler using the games for propaganda, promoting his government and political ideas, only a few years before the outset of the Second World War. In these photographs you can chillingly see the Nazi flag being shown around Berlin. Though Hitler strongly stated that Jewish and black people should not be allowed to participate in the Games, he relented after other nations threatened to boycott. Famously Jesse Owens won four gold medals at this Games, the most successful singular athlete of the games, and as a black American man crushed Hitler's myth of Aryan supremacy. No name is attributed in this volume, but the photographs show two women on the trip together. The scrapbook comprises of forty-five original photographs, and fourteen postcards. One of the postcards is in a handmade envelope to the rear. The scrapbook includes photos of the opening ceremony from a good vantage point but also some scenes not normally seen. Other photographs include the two women around the stadium, and the stadium green being prepared for various events. In the original cloth binding. Externally, the cloth to the tail of the front board is lifting. A small amount of loss to the tail of the front joint and spine, and a smaller amount to the head of the spine. Minor bumping and a little light rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Original photographs are bright and clean. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .

Answer to a Paper, Entituled, the Grievances of His Majesty&Apos;S Subjects Residing Within the Principality of Wales, in Respect of the Court of the Council in the Marches of Wales. With the Particular Conveniencies of That Court
London, Not Stated, 1689. Brochure/Pamphlet. A very scarce pamphlet discussing the Council of Wales and the Marches in the seventeenth century, just before its abolition later that year. A very scarce work. Seen only once at auction in last 40 years. Collated from ESTC, complete. ESTC citation number R29059. The signatures run as [2], B-C2. Disbound, with a small amount of backstrip retained. Written and published anonymously. This pamphlet is a reply to a pamphlet entitled 'The Grievances of His Majestie's Subjects Residing Within the Principality of Wales&apos. The original pamphlet was not in favour of the court of the Council of Wales and the Marches, whereas the author of this pamphlet was. In this work, the author takes each grievance raised in the original pamphlet, totalling in fourteen, and structurally argues their own point of view in favour of the court. The pamphlet is arguing in defence of the Council, and is against the possibility of the Council being abolished. The exact date of this pamphlet is unknown, however the Council of Wales and the Marches was abolished on the 25th July 1689. The council was abolished after the 1688 Glorious Revolution, which established William III and Mary II as monarchs. The historian John Davies states that there was little protest in Wales when the Council was demolished. An interesting insight into the seventeenth century politics of England and Wales. Prior owner's ink inscription, 'XV', to the head of the title page. Disbound, with a small amount of backstrip retained. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with the odd spo and the odd mark. Fold to the centre of the text block. Prior owner's ink inscription, 'XV', to the head of the title page. A couple of ink spots to the title page. Light tidemark to the head and tail of the leaves. Prior owner's ink lining to page 3, striking through twelve words. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
